an allotment

Do you remember this post? And than that I decided to stop, because it didn’t work with Dido?
Well, since february I have an allotment of my own: garden 30a
een tuin!
It’s been neglected for a while so rather full of couch and grasses, dandelions and what ever more…
view from the backside of the garden:

Because I was quiet certain that I would get a garden, I started to read a lot and talked to different people about gardening, growing vegetables, weeds and potagers.
I made up a plan and started to work in the garden, when the weather turned nice lately.
So now it looks like this:

Most people (50 men, 25 women) in the association think the garden should look like the one next to mine on the lefthand side. I have a different opinion….
My neighbour on the other side thinks that my idea to cover it all (mostly) up, is a good idea, I allready love this man;-)
This is my plan in short: put sand and manure on the garden, lay carbon paper over it and black plastic sheets. This will hopefully kill most weeds, and activate earthworms to make the soil (which is heavy clay) more loose and open, the sand is for improving the structure. In little holes in the sheets, I will plant some russian comfrey and pumpkins.
For this year I will leave the raspberries and currants in, until I have decided where I want them. I also made a little pond, for tadpoles to become frogs against slugs and I will make 2 beds for just a little sowing.

Anybody interested in a dutch version, by the way?
Geïnteresseerd in een nederlandse versie, laat me ff weten!
